Magento is the ultimate e-commerce platform, there are hundreds of thousands of Magento V1 websites still in existence from the very small bedroom startups to the huge massively modified websites and everything in between. The bad news for those sites is that in September 2018 Magento announced that the end of life for Magento 1 will be in June 2020.
This means that now is the time to make the leap to the much improved performance of Magento 2.
Post June 2020 Magento V1 won’t have any patches or indeed updates released to fix any security issues, performance updates or bugs that are found. Further, as time goes by and coding languages (such as PHP) or indeed server software is upgraded the likelihood of Magento 1 having major issues will be increased. This will come at a premium to fix as official release updates won’t be forthcoming from Magento the only recourse is the community or individual fixes as and when they occur. Magento 1 sites can be kept on life support for an indeterminate time in this way, but for an extended period it is inadvisable. Also these site will be missing out on all the performance gains from Magento 2 whilst the competition may be taking advantage of any lagging sites.
At evince we have successfully undertaken several projects to transition from Magento 1 to Magento 2 for our clients, these early adopters wanted to get ahead of the game. But now is the time for anyone who wants to use Magento (for the medium to long-term) to work out an upgrade strategy.
We are a small specialist agency as such and with the level of work involved with Magento 1 to Magento 2 conversions we only work on 1 project at a time in order that the end result is a seamless transition. We have several ways in which we can achieve this depending on the site in question and the client’s specific needs. We also offer ongoing support for Magento 2 as well as tweaks and modifications in an ngong capacity if needed.
